Bridal Shows, Inc. Newsletter February Edition
February 27, 2009

Greetings!

The newsletter is back! After a brief hiatus due to both the editor's maternity leave and the all- consuming Dallas Bridal Show, we are happy to be sending you updates from Bridal Shows, Inc. once again.

The new year has started off with a bang! The amazing 20th Year Dallas Bridal Show and Vendor Appreciation night was a huge success. We're also pleased with the results from the Fort Worth Bridal Show which took place last weekend. Now, along with preparing for the summer bridal show season, we are gearing up for the popular Plano Bridal Show on Sunday, March 8th.

We hope everyone has had a wonderful start to the new year, and a Happy Valentines Day. A new year means a new start and a chance to make changes that will improve your business. Make a list of quarterly and yearly goals to keep you on track this year. Remember, we are here to help, so let us know how we can assist you in reaching your goals!

  • Dallas Bridal Show - Review

The Dallas Bridal Show held last month, January 24-25, at Dallas Market Hall, was an enormous success. Being one of our largest shows ever, over 350 wedding businesses met face to face with 2,367 registered brides (over 3,000 brides total) out of over 10,000 attendees. Upgraded signage and beautifully designed stage décor (Quest Drape), lighting (Lite Dallas), and the introduction of a new show entrance showcasing Featured Exhibitors took the Dallas Bridal Show up a level for the 20th Year Anniversary. We were also happy to have the support of the Dallas Bridal Show sponsors, The Knot and 106.1 Kiss FM. We are constantly looking for ways to improve to make the biggest bridal show in North Texas more spectacular.

Along with visiting with vendors, and attending fashion shows, brides at the Dallas Bridal Show were able to hear three celebrity guest speakers: W. Donnie Brown, celebrity wedding planner from Style Network's "Who's Wedding is It Anyway?", Suzanne Kresse, "The Wedding Lady," and Peter Merry, author of "The Best Wedding Reception, Ever!"

As always, exhibitors at the Dallas Bridal Show had the opportunity to participate in a coupon contest to see which company could bring in the most brides and win discounts on future booth prices. Congratulations to the following winners! (Prizes will be attributed to the July 2009 Dallas Bridal Show)

    • First Place: Premier Bride (FREE 10 x 10 booth)
    • Second Place: Saleplace ($300 off booth price)
    • Third Place: (TIE) Bride & Groom Magazine and the Perfect Wedding Guide ($150 off booth price)
    • Planning is well underway for the next Dallas Bridal Show on July 11-12, 2009, with over 80% of space already full! We already have more companies reserved for the upcoming July Dallas 09 show than we had for the total number of companies in July 2008. Many categories are closing, so don't wait to book your booth in July to secure wedding bookings for the rest of 2009 and 2010.

Dallas Bridal Show Exhibitors: Don't forget to follow up, follow up, follow up! The companies that continue to contact the bride multiple times throughout the year will achieve the most success. Remember, if you're not following up, someone else is!

Fort Worth Bridal Show - Review

The 2009 Fort Worth Bridal Show on February 21- 22 proved to be the largest attended Fort Worth Bridal Show ever! With over 761 registered brides (over 1,000 brides total) out of over 3,500 attendees, the 106 participating wedding businesses gathered a wealth of leads to work throughout the year to build their business. We are happy to provide wedding vendors targeting Tarrant and surrounding counties with the professionalism and quality they look for in a bridal show.

Congratulations to the following coupon winners that will receive discounts on the 2009 July Fort Worth Bridal Show.

  • First Place: Bliss Bridal (FREE 10 x 10 booth)
  • Second Place: (TIE) Bride & Groom Magazine and Perfect Wedding Guide ($300 off booth price)
  • Third Place: C & C Florist ($150 off booth price)
  • Over 40% of the Fort Worth Bridal Show on July 25-26 is already booked, but there is still space available if you have not reserved your booth. Don't delay, categories close out quickly!

Plano Bridal Show - March 8th

Have you reserved your booth for the upcoming Plano Bridal Show on March 8th? If not, call right away to find out which categories are still open! The Plano Bridal Show has limited space and closes out every time, so expedience is the key to becoming a part of this popular high-end show. There are only a few spots left as of today. The one-day show offers exhibitors an opportunity to meet with quality brides from Collin and surrounding counties looking for that one-of-a-kind wedding. Held at the Plano Centre, this event attracts over 400 registered brides out of 1,200 attendees. Although it is our smallest bridal show, it packs quite a punch, and has become very popular among DFW's elite wedding businesses and brides.

    New Baby, New Role

Dear Past, Present, and Future Exhibitors and Friends,

I am happy to announce the arrival of my daughter, Abigail Jane Crumpton, born December 30, 2008. Thank you for all the well-wishes and congratulatory messages. It is such a delight to be associated with professionals that value and respect the importance of family.

Being my first child, I had no idea what to expect with Abigail's arrival. Prior to her birth, I knew, as everyone told me, that my life would change. But there was no way of knowing just how much.

I never imagined that I would find a job that was as challenging, enjoyable, and fulfilling as my position at Bridal Shows, Inc. That is, until I met my new "boss," and entered the profession of Motherhood. After much deliberation and prayer, I've decided to venture into the career of full-time mom. This wasn't an easy decision, but it is one I feel very sure about. I will no longer retain a full-time position at Bridal Shows, Inc., but I will continue to help out in a smaller role on the newsletter, websites and at the bridal shows as needed.

The past 6 ˝ years working for Naomi Hulme have been so rewarding. I have learned so much that I will carry with me the rest of my life, and I look forward to continuing in the many wonderful relationships that have been cultivated over that time. I always have and always will believe in Bridal Shows, Inc. and what it does to help small and large business owners. I know the company will continue to be an avenue of growth for wedding companies for years to come.

    Best Wishes and Thank You,

    Bonnie Crumpton

    Testimonials!

"We commend the entire staff at Bridal Shows, Inc. for their excellent commitment to ensuring that all vendors were well prepared for the show. They were very organized, personable, and went above and beyond to respond to each need and seamlessly execute the largest Bridal Show in Dallas. Within a few hours after the show, we booked several weddings and other events. We would like to sincerely thank our account executive Erin Murphy for her patience and her relentless dedication to our success."

    JC Bartending, Inc.

"It was a pleasure to work with your team at the (Dallas) bridal show. Everyone was so easy to work with and helpful, especially Katherine! We had a few bumps in the road during our booking process (our city stuff) and Katherine was great to work with. She is a keeper - very professional, caring, and efficient!

This was, by far, my best bridal show ever. I always share with anyone asking about your shows that they are very organized & professionally done. This year, I will add to my comments that your shows also produce many bookings!

Again, thanks for the hard work. It sure paid off for us!"

    ~Cheryl Allgood
    Ruthe Jackson Center

"My team and I were so impressed with every aspect of the Dallas Bridal Show. Every single part of our experience was amazing. The staff was friendly, attentive and so professional. We were thrilled with the location of our booth, but after walking around we realized that the way this show is organized, there is not a single bad location for a booth. The brides that attended were right on target with the brides we market to. The other vendors were friendly, cooperative and just as excited as we were to be there. I could just go on and on about what a wonderful experience we had and how much we are looking forward to being part of the Dallas Bridal Show for many, many years to come."

    ~Cristina Wisner

"Naomi and the entire staff of Bridal Shows, Inc.,

A very special thanks for an extraordinary show this past weekend. From the very beginning, there was a vivacious, infectious enthusiasm, not only from the staff, but from all the brides and guests we encountered. There were so many added touches, i.e. - staging and décor for the style shows, the layout & design of the entire show, i.e. - the larger booths were placed strategically in the center of the hall, creating an atmosphere of opulence, with a touch of elegance, which flowed throughout the show.

The added attractions, with an array of guests on stage, not only created a newness that excited the brides, but gave the show an overall boost in credibility. Both David and I would like to extend a special thank you for the opportunity to have David perform for your Vendor Appreciation Party. We felt honored to have participated in the festivities, as well as, have the long-standing support and meaningful relationship with both you and Bridal Shows, Inc. Thank you again for a dynamic show!

Wishing you even more success going forward in the coming years!"

Naomi's Notes: "It Was Easier Years Ago"
    by: Naomi Hulme

So many have told me they used to get business without really going after it. Those days are gone for most.

If you are waiting for potential business to come through the door without working your leads properly, you are going to be very disappointed. When we hear someone say their marketing didn't work, it is usually because they failed to thoroughly work their leads. When we check a little further, we find that leads were contacted less than 10 times--usually just 2 or 3 contacts were made.

Please read the article in our October 2008 newsletter, with the information about working your leads 27 times, which really means only 9 times. When you work your leads effectively, you will see results. Continue obtaining and working new leads on a consistent basis without giving up, unless they request for you to quit contacting them. Find ways to stay in contact with all of your leads on a regular basis. There is so much other potential business that so many companies have other than weddings.

In this day and time, it is now more important than ever before to get face-to-face leads. With the age of emails, texting, and all non face-to-face social networking, the customer wants to know who they are doing business with, to know if they feel good about doing business with them, to know if they can trust that company.

Be creative to add value to what your business provides so the customer will want to do business with you. Be a leader and expert in your field-- Read and learn as much as you can about marketing. Be prepared to handle and adapt to changes constantly. Change is going to happen whether we like it or not. When we are doing the right things in the right way, we are prepared for those changes ahead of time.

Steve Kemble at Plano Bridal Show
    Steve Kemble

We are happy to have Steve Kemble as our guest speaker at the upcoming Plano Bridal Show on March 8, 2009 at the Plano Centre.

Steve Kemble, America's Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, has been the magic behind countless international events for more than 20 years. From celebrating the accomplishments of NFL players to organizing parties for two Presidents, he has orchestrated a wide array of high profile events to create an unforgettable affair each time he is called upon.

Steve has cemented his place as America's favorite wedding planner by starring on WE tv's "Wedding Central," "Bling on the Bride," "Married by the In-Laws" and "Platinum Weddings." Additionally, Steve has showcased his event planning expertise by leading the "I Do Crew" in ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition" where a remarkable couple was granted a wedding of their dreams, as well as helping couples make their weddings a reality on the Style Network's "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway" and "Married Away." Steve has planned incredible weddings in locations across the globe including Montreal and Ireland. One of his most awe-inspiring wedding celebrations includes the 7/7/07 wedding of Amanda Dermid and former NFL football player Jimmy Ray Robinson, Jr. They were married on the stage of Nashville's Ryman Auditorium with a 46 person gospel choir.

Kemble discovered his passion for special events when he organized his high school senior prom, and he continued to work on events throughout college at Texas State University. After completing school, Kemble turned his creativity from designing prom invitations and organizing college events to working on the event staff for Congressman Jim Collins. He continued working on events within the political arena as he joined the event departments for both the Dallas Chamber of Commerce and the historic restoration campaign of the Statue of Liberty. All of this experience led to the founding of Dallas-based Steve Kemble Event Design, where he has creatively designed, produced and planned events with his own label and unique touches for more than 20 years.

Upon launching a successful business in Dallas, Kemble expanded his efforts to produce and become an expert on designing international events. He currently spends 70 percent of his time producing events outside the Dallas market, which has enabled him to build and form powerful event partnerships with a variety of people and companies throughout the world.

Kemble's involvement with meetings and events industry exceeds far beyond the realm of his company, making him an expert in the international events market. He founded the Dallas chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES) and served as its first president. He was recently the International President of the ISES.

Naomi's Notes: Ethics - What Should You Do?
    by: Naomi Hulme

What standards or values do you have that you stick to, no matter what? Each of us were raised differently and may have certain values based on how we were raised. As adults, we are responsible for our decisions, and those decisions determine our outcome.

Take a stand for what is right and be a leader for having integrity. Be honest and do what you say you are going to do.

Do the right things and do those things right. In the book, "Commitment to Quality," written and compiled by Harold R. McAlindon, one of the sayings in the book is "The difference in failure and success is doing a thing nearly right and doing a thing exactly right."

According to Martha Stout, Ph.D., in her book "The Sociopath Next Door," one in 25 ordinary Americans secretly has no conscience and can do anything at all without feeling guilty. That means some people do not care anything about ethics because they do not have a conscience. Those that do have a conscience have a responsibility to stand up to those that do not have a conscience, and try to make sure things are done right.

Take notice of people and attitudes around you. What do you see? What do you see yourself thinking and acting on? Speak up when you see unethical behavior. It just might save someone else later.

Steve Harper, in "The Ripple Effect," states "At a fundamental level, just doing business with integrity, fairness and honesty will create positive ripples."

If a person, or company, or group has policies and standards, these standards should be adhered to and not ignored. This shows credibility, and provides trust and security. Commit to a higher standard of professionalism.

"If we take care in the beginning, the end will take care of itself," according to Kenneth Blanchard and Norman Vincent Peale, in their book "The Power of Ethical Management."

Another quote in "Leadership 101," by John C. Maxwell, is "Present choices determine future consequences."

If there is a question about what to do, ask yourself, "What is the right and ethical thing to do?"

    Testimonial

After exhibiting in the Dallas Bridal show along with the Ft. Worth Bridal show, my sales increased significantly in spite of the economic challenges. Weddings I booked from contacts made at the show were above and beyond what I normally book, and I am continuing to receive calls.

The broad exposure my business received is valuable in itself. I am located in Keller and would not have met that many attendees in 2 days ANY other way. They now know who and where to find Kathy's Floral and Event Design.

Lastly, I was able to network and begin building new business relationships with fellow vendors which benefit all involved. Thank you Dallas Bridal Show.

    2009 Wedding Professionals Business Conference

Plan early to be at the 4th annual 2009 Wedding Professionals Business Conference:

    Wednesday, November 18, 2009
    Plano Centre

The 2008 Conference was a huge success and gave wedding business professionals an opportunity to network, attend seminars, visit with vendors, and win door prizes! Planning is underway for the 4th annual Conference this fall. You won't want to miss this event, so clear your calendar and plan to bring your staff for the entire day!

We are still in the process of booking speakers for the event, and are happy to announce that Alan Berg from The Knot will be conducting a seminar titled, "10 Ways Your Website is Killing Your Business."

With more than 25 years experience in sales and marketing, over 18 in wedding related advertising, Alan Berg is uniquely qualified to help local wedding professionals achieve their goals. He is Vice President of Local Strategic Solutions and Director of The Knot Market Intelligence, the company's Resource for Education, Information and Market Research.

Alan is a professional speaker and a member of the National Speakers Association, the leading organization for professional speakers. He speaks to thousands of local business professionals every year through monthly webinars and live presentations.

Stay tuned to the Conference Website for future details.

    Why Do Summer Shows?

Too often wedding companies make the mistake of not exhibiting in summer bridal shows. Even though schedules are hectic with weddings during the summer, and you may even be booked through the end of the year, the summer bridal shows are an opportunity for you to finish the year strong, but more importantly to make a powerful impact on 2010!

Prepare for your company's future by meeting with brides that are planning a year or more in advance. Also, many of the brides that visit the Spring shows, return in the Summer only to find the company they were looking for isn't there, so they end up going with the competition because they are present and available.

If you feel you are unable to do a summer bridal show due to manpower, finances, etc., call our sales team for practical solutions so you don't miss out on meeting with thousands of brides!

    Booth at the Entrepreneur Expo

On Wednesday, April 22, Bridal Shows, Inc. exhibited in the 10th Annual Entrepreneur Expo in Fort Worth to promote our upcoming Wedding Professionals Business Conference. This was our third year to participate as an exhibitor at the expo and once again enjoyed making connections with business professionals and networking to build relationships and help the Conference grow!

    Welcome New Bridal Show Babies!

Congratulations to two loyal Dallas Bridal Show exhibitors on the birth of their baby boys!

Summer and Josh Satterfield of Capturing Moments Video celebrated the birth of Tyler Satterfield on January 13, 2009.

Margaret and Byron Lake of Margaret Lake Photography welcomed adopted son, Jackson Lake on Feb. 26, 2009.

Margaret and Summer actually met through the Dallas Bridal Show and have not only built a professional relationship but a long lasting friendship. They are excited that their two boys, only 44 days apart, will be able to continue that friendship as they grow up together.

    Featured Exhibitor Opportunity in July

At the January Dallas Bridal Show we premiered a new opportunity for additional exposure called Featured Exhibitors.

Featured Exhibitors were able to acquire placement at the front entrance of the show for an additional cost. The front "Featured Exhibitors" area went very well at the January 2009 Dallas Bridal Show, so we have decided to continue with this set-up at the Dallas Bridal Show on July 11-12, 2009.

Some companies have already rebooked their prime front position. We have recently opened it up to other companies that wish to lock in this great opportunity. Keep in mind that each 10x10 is an additional $500 to your normal booth space cost. There is limited space available. The photography category is again closed out for this Featured Exhibitor area.

In addition to your prime placement, your company name will be listed on the front entrance unit, bolded in the program, and featured on the myspace site.

Call your account executive today if you wish to take advantage of gaining an additional edge in spotlighting your company in the show.

    Naomi's Notes: "Making Decisions"
    by: Naomi Hulme

How do you make quick decisions that create a positive outcome?

So many people and companies in business struggle with decision-making. Will my decision be okay with others? Will my team benefit from my decision? Will my clients and customers know that I care about them? Will what I decide give added value to everyone?

We all make mistakes in our professional and personal lives. With some quick rational thinking along with a few or more facts, we can come up with what we think is the right decision at that moment. Stick with your decision. Accept and own your decision. In time, you will make some positive changes and directions to your original decision and have new and better decisions.

Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. You are not going to please everyone anyway. Make your decision on what is best for your company, your team, and for your clients and customers long-term.

Be proud of your decisions and don't look back. No matter what, don't be wishy-washy. Make a decision! The more you make decisions, the better you will become at it. Make the more important and difficult decisions first and get them out of the way.

Move forward and continue to grow and learn so you will make better decisions this year than last year.

    --------------------------------

One of the lesson titles in the book "Swim with the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive" by Harvey Mackay, is -----"Make your decisions with your heart, and what you'll end up with is heart disease."

    --------------------------------

In "The Rules of Business-55 Essential Ideas to Help Smart People (and Organizations) Perform at Their Best," by Fast Company, the decision-making process is broken down into these four steps: "

    1. Framing, that is, deciding what you are going to decide--and not decide.
    2. Gathering intelligence: real intelligence, not just information that will support internal biases.
    3. Coming to conclusions, which is another way of saying acting on the intelligence you gather.
    4. Learning from experience, because the only thing worse than not knowing how to make a decision is having to make the same decision over and over again."

    --------------------------------

According to Bill Goodwin, Jr., CEO of CCA Industries, "Make good, simple, honest, and ethical decisions." (See his chapter in "Leadership Secrets of the World's Most Successful CEOs" by Eric Yaverbaum.)

    Book Give-A-Way Day!

As most of you know, Naomi loves to encourage others to read and learn more each day. As an added value to already giving away so many books each year, we are now starting a "Book Give-a-Way Day" on Thursday, June 4th, from 9am to 4pm, here at our office located at 4821 Keller Springs Rd., Addison, TX 75001 (Northeast corner of Addison Rd. and Keller Springs Rd.).

We will try to have a list of some of the books in the next newsletter for you. Books will be limited to no more than 3 per person. Most are used books that Naomi has bought from Half Price Books in the last few years.

Please understand that these will be first come/first serve to those that show up. We will have soft drinks available all day, and some finger food from 11:30am to 1pm.

If you have some books that you would like to bring to donate to the pile of books to be given away, bring those with you. We appreciate any assistance with helping others to grow their business.

    Happy Reading!

I'll Go Anywhere, As Long As It's Forward

    by: Robert Warlow
    Small Business Success

I saw a great quote the other day on an advertising board, from Dr David Livingstone, "I'll go anywhere as long as it's forward."

Obviously said in the context of his goal to explore the depths of darkest Africa but isn't it a great maxim to live your life by?

By living your life with the goal that every action you take has to move you forward, you will quickly see possibilities which you never saw before. Your mind will seek out new opportunities to move you forward.

I am sure we all have friends or family members who either spend their time at best, standing still, or at worse, going backwards in life. Look at your life now, compared to how it was 5 years ago. Have you gone backwards, stood still or moved forward? If it's the first two, then it's time to shift your view of life!

Let's look at which areas of your life you should shake up.

    Family
Are you spending enough time with them? What can you do to bring more balance in your life?

    Health
Over the last few years have you gained a few extra pounds? In moving forward could you change your eating habits?

    Social
To move forward in life it helps to meet new people and experience new things. Can you widen your social horizons?

    Relationships
Are there relationships in your life which are holding you back? Do you need to develop new relationships?

    Goals
Do you know where you want to be in 5 or 10 years time? To progress in life you have to have clear goals.

    Wealth
Money, or the lack of it, can hold you back. Put a plan in place which will provide a financial nest egg for the future.

    Business/Career
What are your career goals? Do you see yourself in the same role in 5 years? If not, what do you have to do to plan your next move?

Take some time out to look at where you are now. Decide that all your actions should now be framed with the aim of moving forward. Remember, go anywhere as long as it's forward!

" I love this Expo! Not only did I meet some great people and do some powerful networking, but I left at the end of the day with a couple of speaking engagements. And then, in April, I received a call from a planner who is now my newest client."

New Opportunity for Dallas Bridal Show exhibitors!

Because of over 20 years of great media relationships in the local Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, we have a true advantage and are able to bring you some unique and fantastic opportunities.

One such opportunity is being debuted through the upcoming July Dallas Bridal Show with Consumer 411 TV. Sheryl Thacker has been very successful with her Consumer 411 TV shows in Atlanta for the last four years and has already started filming and airing shows here in the DFW area. Sheryl is a celebrity host who brings a lot of energy and fun to her shows. She has the credibility to already know what to do because she has done it.

The segments for this event that will be airing the week prior to our show were originally priced at $850 which includes production, owning the segment, and being able to use it on your website or any other way you wish to use it. We found out that Sheryl is getting married in September in Hawaii and is wanting to have a reception here in Dallas sometime in October or November of this year. As always, we try to negotiate a win-win situation for everyone. We pitched the idea to Sheryl that we could get vendors who would be able to help with her reception and at the same time, maybe get a better rate for the vendors and other added value. What was finalized was a $500 segment cost that still included production and owning the segment for those companies that want to provide one of the components of her wedding reception-one company per category-very limited.

Other added value with this opportunity is that the segment will be a part of The Wedding Show that will run in October, and then will re-run in January, 2010.

A link will also be provided on our websites and the email blasts that we send out to brides on our website (average 3,500 plus at all times) for the brides to view the segments in advance of the show.

The total value of this package is over $3,000!

Check out the website (www.consume r411tv.com) to view other category segments, and watch the TV show every Saturday morning at 8:30am on KTXA Channel 21.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please call us immediately as this is definitely a limited one time opportunity. We are in the process at this very moment finalizing details with a facility for the reception. That means at this time, the facility, food and beverage, tables and chairs, and cake are taken until further notice.

    Naomi's Notes: "Positive Self-Talk"
    by: Naomi Hulme

How many times have we heard others put themselves down about something that really didn't need to be said? Or, maybe you are the one using negative language towards yourself. This draws negative attention to you.

We all need to work on inspiring ourselves to be the best we can be-to bring out the best in ourselves. None of us are perfect. We are going to make mistakes, but we need to learn from them and not dwell on them.

Communication is the key in any relationship, even with ourselves. Tell yourself what you are good at, what your strengths are, what you like about yourself. Then, tell yourself what you want to be better at and work on that area. Take one area at a time. Have realistic expectations of yourself. Appreciate and rejoice in even the smallest accomplishments.

Bad habits can be changed over time. Practice talking in a positive way about yourself to others and to you. This helps improve every area of your life and those around you. This starts in your mind.

David J. Lieberman, Ph.D., in his book Don't Spend Years on the Couch! Instant Analysis. How You Can Understand and Change-The 100 Most Common, Puzzling, Annoying, Self-Defeating Behaviors & Habits, states "Every significant battle is first waged within your heart and in your mind. It's there where you win or lose. How your reality unfolds is only an expression of an outcome already decided by you. You need to be on your own side. Life is hard enough without the enemy having outposts in your head."

The great inspirational author Norman Vincent Peale wrote "Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal powers comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out," from his well- known book The Power of Positive Thinking.

Attitude is everything! It not only helps us but is also a major factor in our relationships with others. A short excerpt taken from the book How to Win 7 Out of 8 Days a Week by Landon Saunders is "The better you like yourself, the more people are going to enjoy being with you.

According to Marian Thomas, in A New Attitude, she gives us the following words: "How do you get your attitude working for you rather than against you? Start by believing in yourself-by using positive self-talk and visualizing positive things happening to you. Learn to attack your problems head-on and continually look for the bright side in any situation. Rely on your sense of humor when the going gets tough and try to make any task fun. Finally, don't forget to reward yourself for a job well done."

Remember that God made us all unique and special. Other statements by Landon Saunders in his book mentioned above are: "Being unique means you are irreplaceable and responsible. No one can ever take your place, and you have a work to do no one else can ever do. . . . Be the best possible you-at work, at home, wherever you area. And then lie down at night . . . and see how much more interesting the day has been than when you were living just like everyone else."

One of life's great thoughts by Dore Schary shown in the book Life is Tremendous by Charlie "Tremendous" Jones is "If you have a weakness, make it work for you as a strength-and if you have a strength, don't abuse it into a weakness."

When we talk and act in a positive way, it lifts ourselves and others up and creates great energy for all. Now, go think and talk positively, and you will be happier for it. Life will have a new meaning.

How to Read a Business Book

Excerpt from Jay Ehret's blog, The Marketing Spot

Reading books is like getting your master's degree without the tests and the student loans. Formal education is great, but four years after graduation, only half of college graduates are in jobs related to their major. The real education and career development comes after school.

Academic text books are, well, academic. They are written to deliver basic, fundamental knowledge of how things work. Your college text books were written by academicians, not practitioners. The authors do a good job of studying the subject, but they often have little to no real life hands-on experience. Business books, on the other hand, are written by the soldiers of business. The authors are specialists in the trenches learning, and then writing, from actual experience.

Consume business books, don't read them. Think of each book as a college course. The table of contents is like a syllabus. I rarely read more than one chapter a day, because each chapter of a business book usually has one central idea. Consume that idea and let it roll around in your head for a full day. How does it apply to what you do? How can you practically use the concept of that chapter?

Never read a business book without a pen or highlighter in hand. Make notes, underline key passages, put stars in the margin next to important points. Use the chapter divider pages to summarize the chapter in your own words. When you get an important idea while reading, write it on those blank pages in the back of the book. Not only will you get more out of your book, you will also index your book for future use. Later, when you want to review an important idea in the book, you won't have to search through all the text.

Whenever you read a business book, use a 3x5 index card as your bookmark. Seth Godin suggests that before you start reading, decide that you're going to change three things about how you work. Then, as you read, find the three things you're going to change. Write those three things on the index card.

Here's what you'll take away if you use the above process:

    • Notes about important concepts and key ideas, easily accessible in the future.
    • Notable quotes from the book that you can use in your own writings, or just to impress your friends.
    • Three things to change how you work.

Visit The Marketing Spot to read more about benefiting from business books as well as other useful articles for small business owners.

We'd like to thank everyone that came out for the Free Book Give-A-Way Day last month. We hope you are all enjoying your new books! There are still several books left over at the Bridal Shows, Inc. office, along with many new books brought to us by those who came by on June 4th. Naomi's Notes: "Do What You Enjoy and Enjoy What You Do!"
    by: Naomi Hulme

A few years ago, a photographer told me at the end of a show that she had a bride come up to her at that show to let her know that she was switching her photography from another company to this photographer because of her smile. This photographer really enjoyed her business and had real passion for it. The bride could, of course, see this very clearly.

Sometimes we can get comfortable doing the same thing over and over or we can get tired over time if our passion is no longer there.

If you really enjoy what you do, everyone will see it and feel it and know it. This applies so much more when you are exhibiting in a trade show. If you are not really passionate about what you are promoting, don't expect anyone to do business with you.

Give it all you've got if you really want to continue doing what you're doing. It may be best to renew your passion each day to bring the passion back. Have fun with what you do-it is essential. According to a quote by Theresa Helburn, shown in the book "Life Is Tremendous" by Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, "One's life work, I have learned, grows with the working and living. Do it as if your life depended on it, and first thing you know you'll have made a life out of it. A good life, too."

In the book "Keeping Your Head Up When Your Job's Got You Down," by Doug Sherman, he states, "To enjoy your work, you must have a compelling vision of what you do and why you do it." So many companies bring a lot of value to thousands of people. Think about the "why" in what you do.

David Niven, PhD., has a quote in his book, "The 100 Simple Secrets of Successful People," that reads: "Co-workers and customers asked to rate the job satisfaction of retail store employees were three times as accurate as random chance. Customers were 70 percent more likely to continue to do business in the store if they found the employees satisfied with their jobs. (Hagan 1999)"

Some people think they are going to retire someday. I am one of those who hope to be working until I can't anymore, because I love everything that I do. So many people that I have talked to that have retired were not as satisfied as they were working and are back out there. If you are in this dilemma, read the book "Don't Retire, Rewire! 5 Steps to Fulfilling Work that Fuels Your Passion, Suits Your Personality, or Fills Your Pocket."

Many years ago, I heard Zig Ziglar say that he was not retired, he was refired. He meant that he was fired up again. Maybe we all need to fire ourselves up every once in a while.

It is a true joy and a secure feeling when you really enjoy what you do. Everyone else will know it, also.

    Understanding Proper Nutrition

Like so many others, did you make a New Year's resolution to lose weight and/or get healthier and find yourself halfway through the year and needing some support? Enjoy this two part article from Bridal Shows, Inc. President, Naomi Hulme's very own Personal Trainer, Elaine Bullard of Core Essential Personal Fitness.

    PART ONE:

One key element to weight lose is being able to understand proper nutrition. Basically, the majority of the American population is clueless as to how to properly fuel their bodies. All the processed low fat, fat free, sugar free, low sodium and fast food meals we consume are so calorie packed it's ridiculous. Recently scientists have realized that these specialty diet foods that we have been consuming for the past several decades actually confuse our bodies metabolism to the extent the system does not know how to process the volume that we consume. Therefore; we just hold on to it, turning it into this (NO OFFENSES) but; Jaba the Hut looking body fat.

For instance diet sodas, they are supposed to be calorie free. But how do you feel after drinking one? Slightly bloated right? This is because you've just consumed volume; or substance and your system is trying to determine how to process it, it realizes there is something there. But; where do I need to distribute it to supply my energy needs? It's fluid but not water, there's no nutritional value, it is chemical packed and useless to your system but its there, so it's just stored. This is also part of the problem with many of the meal replacement shakes on the market. Many of them actually contain a gum that can not be processed. Giving you a feeling of fullness curbing your appetite, but this gum is a foreign substance that the body does not know how to process. In order for our bodies to assimilate nutrition we have to produce saliva to activate gastric fluids which in turn digest food or calories consumed. So if you are using meal replacement shakes, make sure that it does not contain any gums and try to at least eat an animal or graham cracker or perhaps a little bit of fruit with it.

Most fast foods are of absolutely no nutritional value and talk about calorie packed, a small cheese burger off of the Mc Donald's $.99 cent menu is 250 calories with 3.5 grams of saturated fat and let's look at the sodium 520 mg. The white flour used to make the buns, is pretty much poison to our systems and just clogs our digestive tract interfering with the bodies ability to absorb nutrition when we do ingest it.

Looking at a healthier choices --- Salads, ok so maybe as far as calories are concerned that could be a healthier choice. But; let's check out the balance of the macronutrients.

Macronutrients, for those of you how don't know are carbohydrates, protein, and fats. Now in order for the human body to function properly; and what I mean by this is for our metabolism to work right, our blood sugar to maintain a steady level and our brain to think... We require approximately four times the amount of carbohydrates as we do protein and essential fatty acids should make up about 10-30 percent of our daily calories.

Now; before we go any further, let's go back the salad discussion looking at our list of salads; how many of them provide us with proper balance? The Southwest Salad w/o chicken is the only one I see to be properly balanced.

So now that we've been enlightened on proper nutrition lets talk about some of our more popular diets that you guys may have tried in the past.

Naomi's Notes: Increase Your Credit Score
    by: Naomi Hulme

So many small business owners have a difficult time keeping a cash flow and having a good credit score at the same time. Death to a business is not having enough money and not having a way to get money. When a business owner is in a cash crunch, it is a fearful time. If that same business owner does not have good credit, then it is sometimes impossible for them to keep their business going. Of course, the best case scenario is for companies to plan ahead and always be ready for crunch times, no matter what. This is never simple.

If everyone spent less than their income and paid bills on time, it would make a huge difference for having money when needed. Having extra money when needed helps you, your company, and possibly some family members get through the tough times.

Increasing your credit score will help you in many ways. If someone is looking to buy a house or car, obtain insurance, refinance to receive lower interest rates, get a credit card (to use only if necessary), or borrow money for various reasons, having a higher credit score will save you money because of being able to get a lower interest rate. It shows credibility to the financial institution looking to loan you money. They know that you have been responsible and accountable seeing your high credit score. This helps them determine that you are a good risk to repay a loan and make payments on time.

Chapter 12 (Getting Your Credit Back in Good Shape) of Credit Repair Kit for Dummies, states "Having good credit can open up doors of opportunity whereas having bad credit can close doors or at least make it harder to get through them. Getting your credit back in good shape is, therefore, something you want to do as quickly as possible. "

If you have credit cards, keep in mind a few points: (1) always pay more than the minimum portion, (2) pay them all off as quick as possible-have a plan and stick to it, no matter how long it takes, (3) never have a balance that is more than 50% of the available credit- this is a big factor in helping to increase your credit score, (4) keep in mind the high interest rates-after making payments on time for a while, call and request a lower interest rate-sometimes it works, (5) move balances to a 0% or low interest rate credit card option if available-if this is for a certain time frame, only move an amount that you can pay off in that timeframe-this helps reduce your interest costs while paying off the card (check to make sure the fee is not more than what you would pay in the interest), (6) plan on not using your cards unless you really really have to.

Other things to remember about credit cards- only use those credit cards that have perks attached to them. Airline miles and points can come in handy. If you are very disciplined with your cards and pay them off monthly, these miles and points can rack up.

Don't ever think that your credit is so bad that you just give up. Start today in small ways and get into those good habits that will help you long term. Even a year of doing the right things can get you headed in the right direction.

According to Jerrold Mundis, in his book How to Get Out of Debt, Stay Out of Debt & Live Prosperously, he says to tell yourself, "Just for today, you're not going to incur any new debt . . .You can not get out of debt by borrowing more money."

Debbie Barker Johnson with Lone Star Credit and Debt Relief (www.lonestardebtmanagement.com) can be reached locally at 214-632-0632 to raise your credit scores. She states, "Higher credit scores means lower interest rates saving you thousands of dollars on interest."

There are some great websites with lots of good information and things to watch out for: www.consumercredit.com
    www.ftc.gov
www.debtorsanonymous (desire to stop incurring unsecured debt)
www.spenders.org (find out if you are a compulsive spender)

Manage your finances wisely and consciously - this will help to increase your credit score and give you peace of mind.

Dallas' beloved Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor alum Melissa Rycroft popped up Saturday at the Dallas Bridal Show at Market Hall, and she wasn't working.

She was just another bride-to-be getting tips for her upcoming wedding to Tye Strickland.

Event planner and TV personality Steve Kemble was a featured speaker at the show on Saturday and Sunday.

"Think how astonished I was when I looked up as I was giving my presentation on hot wedding trends to see Melissa Rycroft," he says. "She is one of the nicest people I have ever met, and she is gorgeous!" (And he has the iPhone photo to prove it.)

    Understanding Proper Nutrition:
    PART TWO

    (continuation from last month's article)

So now that we've been enlightened on proper nutrition lets talk about some of our more popular diets that you guys may have tried in the past.

Atkins: for instance; the Low Carb Diet does not supply enough crabs to be affective. You are not getting enough to fuel to provide your body's energy needs. After a few days you start feeling sluggish, and get cranky. This is because you are causing your blood sugar levels to drop to unsafe levels putting your body into a state of ketosis, which is what happens right before you go into a diabetic coma. This diet also causes your kidneys to work harder to process all the excess protein and it takes 4 times the water and calcium to process protein as it does carbohydrates. When you go off this diet you wind up gaining even more weight because overall while you were doing this diet you where actually robbing your muscle mass to supply your energy needs. And remember the mention of using 4 times the amount of calcium to process the protein. Hello bone density depletion. Now don't get me wrong; it does work temporarily. As a matter of fact this is the diet that body builders use to prepare for competition with the exception of all the high fat meats. However, they only follow this diet in competition phase, because it is very unsafe. And they would be putting their health in jeopardy if they followed it long term.

Bottom line; Diets don't work. Anytime you cut out a macronutrients to reduce your weight you are robbing your body of vital vitamins and nutrients. Which in the long run cause your weight loss plan to fail.

You have to burn more calories than you consume and keep track of not only what you eat but how much you eat helps you to be accountable. Your best food choices are all natural unprocessed foods, (fresh fruits and veggies) next choice being frozen fruits and vegetables and then canned. Basically shopping the outer perimeters of the grocery store is strongly suggested. Your proteins should consist of lean white meats, such as fish and chicken and lean cuts of beef are also acceptable. You can also get adequate protein from vegetarian diets by eating proper combinations of beans and leafy greens.

Women should consume approximately 16 calories per pound of body weight for basic maintenance. For weight loss you need to reduce that by 500 - 750 calories per day. Incorporating multivitamins is also in your best interest because to get all our necessary vitamins and minerals through food alone would require eating way more than most of us could possibly consume, especially if your are reducing calories to decrease your weight.

It is also important that we replenish our fuel supplies at least 4-6 times per day in order to keep our insulin levels and metabolism working properly. The longer we wait between meals the lower your blood sugar levels drop and then when we do eat again, even if it is healthy food it causes our sugar levels spike. Also; your metabolism is like a campfire, if your wait until the fire has almost completely burned out before you feed the fire and then put a big huge log on the fire you are more likely to smother the fire than if your were to continually feed it small amounts of kindling. Wouldn't you agree that all of this makes since?

    Testimonials!

We love hearing from exhibitors about how the bridal shows have changed their businesses!

    Dear Bridal Shows Inc,

What a delight to be included in your Fort Worth Bridal Show. After being on the waiting list for only 1 year, I had two weeks to prepare and I am so glad I was able to pull it together! I booked 6 weddings at the show, and am still receiving consultations 6 months later! The show is great, well advertised, and attendance was very high. The organizers are very friendly and professional; they are always there if you have a question. Thank you Bridal Shows Inc, what a wonderful way this has been to get my name in the community!

Just wanted to say again how much the 2009 March Plano Bridal Show helped us here at Wylie Video. I'd say we booked (and already have filmed 80% of) about $8000 worth of work. A pretty fantastic haul for only $1000 and a few hours of our time!! We had such a great time being there also. This will not sound honest...but it is...I got a call last week (months after the March show) from a bride who remembered us and then after a meeting, went ahead and booked with us! It keeps coming in!

That last show was our first, I'm confident we can do much more to help ourselves book brides for our video services. Very anxious for this upcoming show..

    Thank You

New Trends in the Wedding Industry

Every year we see new trends forming in the wedding industry. Many things can affect these trends, for example; economy, media (celebrities), fashion, and the desire to always be new and different!

Every so often it is important to stop and meditate on some current trends you are seeing amongst the brides you talk to. It is advantageous to share this information with others in the industry so that we can all learn from each other and gather a solid knowledge of what the modern bride wants, especially on a local level.

On that note... we would love to gather some information from you regarding current trends. This information can then be compiled for educational purposes and be listed in the next newsletter.

Please respond to this newsletter or simply email us at news@bridalshowsinc.com telling us about some of the trends you've seen emerging recently.

As a sign of appreciation for emailing us with a NEW TREND you've encountered THIS YEAR, we will send you a $5 gift certificate to a local restaurant chain! (while supplies last)

Naomi's Notes: YOU can do it!
    by: Naomi Hulme

    YOU can do it!
    You CAN DO it!
    You can do IT!

We make our dreams come true or not. It is all up to each of us to make those things happen that we wish for and want. Whatever your "it" is, whether a dream or passion or goal, you really "can do" it if you want it bad enough and work at it hard enough. Ignore the "can'ts" that you hear in your own mind and from others.

We have so many choices each day. Think back a year ago of missed opportunities that either you weren't financially or professionally or emotionally ready for. What if you had planned ahead and were ready for any and all opportunities that came your way. Imagine how and what you would be doing. Now think back five years ago and come forward. There were probably some opportunities that you were able to jump on and make use of in that time. What other opportunities do you see that either you or your family missed?

No matter where you are today, you can choose today going forward to have a great, optimistic, positive attitude about every area of your life. You CAN accomplish anything you set out to do. Sometimes we have to get creative to get through the stumbling blocks.

Start planning now to watch for any positive opportunities that God puts in your path.

According to David McNally, in his book Even Eagles Need a Push, he stated, "Those who learn to soar have the courage to take a positive attitude toward life. They understand that life offers many surprises but believe that within those surprises are lessons - and that from the lessons comes wisdom. A positive attitude requires courage because it is a decision not to be defeated no matter what challenges life presents."

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing."
    Abraham Lincoln

"A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes."
    Hugh Downs

Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Gold Book of Yes! Attitude says, "A large part of attitude achievement is the visualization. It's easier to visualize YES! than it is to visualize positive. When something great happens, no one screams, "Positive!" Everyone screams, "YES!" That's the difference. That's the YES! factor."

Each day, do one thing that helps you get where you want to be. Mix that one thing in your schedule no matter how busy you are. At the end of one year, you will have stretched and grown personally and professionally in so many ways. You will then start to add new directions to your original dream. Just imagine how much more purpose you will have in your life. Go for it!

Keep Your Eye on the Prize
    by: Erin Murphy

The summer shows are almost over, but the brides are still in full swing planning mode. DFW is fortunate to have had a great year in the wedding industry in light of all that has happened economically across the country. I have had many an exhibitor tell me that they thought it may be a "make it or break it year" to then follow that statement up with "I have had to turn business away!!"

In this economy brides are pricing who they will be working with as they are holding their wedding budget just a bit tighter to their chest. Today's bride is not just pricing when they research companies, they are looking for a company they feel good about. Being face to face with the brides at bridal shows gives you a wonderful opportunity to earn their business as it used to be when our parents and grandparents chose to do business with those they could look in the eye and shake hands with, this is what a bride is looking for now more than ever.

The bridal shows give you a chance to showcase what you do, how you differ from the competition and personalize your service but, this is just the beginning of earning their business. The common denominator for those that are thriving in this economy is that they are being consistent with the lead follow up process, not just for a month or two after the show, but for up to a year. Those who are not getting the response they expected also have a common denominator; they have sent 2-3 emails, mailers or phone calls and stopped.

The key is to keep your name, brand and company vibe fresh in their minds amidst the chaos of planning a wedding. Consumers are shown commercials, logos and have heard company slogans so often that most can tell you by sight or sound clip what the product is. The origin of the word slogan is Irish Gaelic and translates to "Battle Cry" which is what it may seem at times when trying to stay in front of potential customers.

Make a plan of attack and be consistent as potential customers are not just looking at price but, consistency which translates to reliability in their minds whether they realize it or not. Stay consistent with follow up emails, calls and direct mail to make sure you capture every possible customer's attention. Today's bride is looking at a wedding date anywhere from 3 to 24 months out and in some cases as far out as 36 months, so why would you stop trying to stay in front of them after a few months?

A great example is an experience I had while out running errands on the weekend at the end of June. There I was pushing my shopping cart when I heard "Oh Oh Oh!!!" as I turned to see what the excitement was about I noticed a woman pointing at my shirt, you see I was wearing a Bridal Shows, Inc. t- shirt. The young lady came over and said while still pointing at my shirt "is that like the Dallas Bridal Show, the one at Market Hall?" I stated that yes it was and what I did for the company and before I could say anything else she was digging in her purse and pulling out our show program from January!!

The woman continued to tell me how she carried the program with her everywhere and loved the fact that she could see all the companies in one place and take notes on the program itself. Besides from being slightly mortified by the fact that I had no makeup on and my hair was in a pony tail I was struck by the enthusiasm the bride had for the show and the exhibitors some 5 months later!

The most important piece of information this bride to be gave me was this, she started going down the list one month after the show and highlighting companies she remembered by name as a jumping off point in her research. I can most assuredly tell you why she highlighted certain companies; they followed up and were consistent in doing so!

Take a good look at how many times you are following up, what types of follow up methods are working best and ramp it up! Whatever it takes set a time aside each day to focus on reaching the brides to be and maybe you will be one of the highlighted companies in the next bride's show program!

We are trying to help in getting some word out regarding needing clothes for the children. They are: two girls, ages 7 (size 6-7 slim), and 3 (size 4T), and one boy age 5 or 6 (size 5 slim). If you have or know someone who might have gently worn or new clothes that would fit these children, please let us know here at Bridal Shows, Inc. and we can arrange to meet you to pick them up or you are welcome to bring them by our office:

    4821 Keller Springs Rd.
    Addison, TX, 75001
(Northeast corner of Keller Springs and Addison Rd.)

We have helped with some food items already. You are welcome to donate gift cards or gas cards, also. We appreciate any help you can give.

    Thank you very much.

    Naomi

    ~Wrapped Around You

"The speakers were all GREAT! I learned so much today! I do wish I had more time to see the exhibitors. Maybe because I attended a seminar at every session that was hard? Or maybe I talked too long at each of the booths I did see! Thanks Naomi for another great event packed with all the info I needed and all the info I didn't know I needed!"

    Great Vendor Testimonial!!

Just wanted to tell you how successful my first bridal show was with you all. I have booked 14 weddings from the Dallas Bridal Show so far and have many more in the works. This was far, far beyond my expectations. Many vendors at the show told me that two to three bookings would be awesome, so I never dreamed that there would be 14! Maybe it is beginners luck, but I hope not.

Benefits of Exhibiting at the Conference

If your business markets to wedding professionals and/or business owners then the Wedding Professionals Business Conference is a great opportunity for you to exhibit what you have to offer to hundreds of professionals!

The wedding industry is a vast and diverse group of individuals that desire to grow their businesses and achieve their dreams. Just like any other business they need assistance from companies that specialize in areas outside their expertise such as promotions, marketing, accounting, insurance needs, printing, training, suppliers, etc.

If you are unsure how exhibiting in the Business Conference could benefit you or want to learn more about this exciting opportunity to make face-to-face interactions with potential customers, call Nichole Brawner at 972-713-9920 or email her at nicholebrawner@bridalshowsinc.com.

    Naomi's Notes: Expertise
    by: Naomi Hulme, CEM

Once you decide to start a business or decide to improve the business you have, it takes a lot of determination to learn everything you can and stick to it for a long time. Making a commitment to working on your business is a daily task. It can either be a joy or a burden, depending on how you look at it. Learning the hard way is usually the road most people take. Hopefully over time, those things we learn help us become better at what we do, and then we learn again because everything changes continually. The key is "we must learn" or the trials and challenges didn't change us.

Time is always moving on. Therefore, we must learn today. Today is the day we decide to be the best that we can be. Learn as much as you can to be an expert in your field. Be a student of your profession. Write articles about your expertise.

Design your own experience by having a plan. Do not be afraid to take a risk or make a mistake. Learning from our mistakes is part of what makes us better at what we do. If we learn one new thing each day, imagine what knowledge and experience we will have over time.

Get out there and make it happen. Strive to be an outstanding expert-and never stop!

    New Wedding Trends

In last month's newsletter we asked for companies to send in current wedding trends they see happening right now. Thank you to Susan Clark of Sweet Memories Cakes & Caterings for submitting the following info. Restaurant Gift Certificates were sent her way! If you would still like to share current trends you've observed, please email us at news@bridalshowsinc.com and we will send you a gift as well!

From Susan Clark, Sweet Memories Cakes & Catering:

New trends that we see in the market place: With catering some girls with smaller budgets are going back to the wedding cake reception and offering 2-3 small hor'd while they are having their pictures taken. Don't forget to share with the guest that there will be a cake rececption following the wedding. This will allow the guest to eat before or after the wedding reception so they will not leave the reception and not have a chance to visit with the bride.

Cake trends are really fun. Color is really in and so is the BLING!!! There is also excitement in the Indian Weddings as they have some beautiful color trends and design of their own.

New colors trends are the purples, pinks, olive greens, turquoise, along with black and browns.

    Who loves Door Prizes?!

Who DOESN'T love door prizes?! Anyone that has been around Bridal Shows, Inc. for very long knows that we love to give stuff away! An added perk to attending the Wedding Professionals Business Conference is the many door prizes we give away. We try to make sure as many people as possible leave that day with a prize in hand.

Door prizes will include business books, cd's, restaurant gift cards, and more!

If you are interested in gaining a little added exposure by donating a door prize, call Nichole Brawner at 972- 713-9920 ext. 106. All companies donating door prizes will be listed in the conference program (if given enough advance notice) and announced at the event.

Keep in mind that the door prize must be FREE, in other words no "$50 off a $100 purchase," or "20% off," etc.

    Congratulations!

Congratulations Ruthie on her new baby, no it's not a cake, it's a granddaughter, Amelia (Abby & Andre's little baby girl).

    Happy Halloween!

    Four Steps to Retake Control
    of Your Time!

    by: Sarah Zink
(speaker at 4th annual Wedding Professional Business Conference)

    Cost Your Time
How much is your time worth? Take a moment to figure out how much you're worth. Using your gross salary, factor in what your company pays on your behalf for benefits, perks, etc. Divide that by 45 hours per week (NO, you can't divide by 60, or 50... even if you work that much). Use this figure when trying to determine tasks. Is it worth it for you to do any given task based on what you cost the company per hour? If you're spending hours organizing the supply cabinet, and it's not your job to do so, you're not only wasting time, you're wasting the company's money.

    Block Your Time
Be aggressive about planning your time, because in essence, you are managing your energy. When your co-workers invade your office to chat, make a point that you're happy to meet them in the break room at 10:15, and block off 15 minutes for that purpose. Block off other chunks of time to read and answer emails and voicemails, and to work on larger projects. Don't hesitate to close your door or put a sign on your door/cubicle indicating your need some quiet time to focus.

    Set Goals
How do you know you're successful at planning your time if you don't set goals? Turning reports in on time, creating/finishing projects, etc. are the benchmarks for many people when determining if they are successful at time management. Decide for yourself what the goals are for you and then see what it will take to make that happen.

    Learn to say "No"
All too often, we are tempted to say "yes" in order to be cooperative, when in reality, we are simply self-sabotaging. In the privacy of your home, car, or office, practice saying "no" in a firm, yet pleasant way. "Thank you so much for thinking of me, but I simply can't take on another task right now." If it's your boss asking you to take on more work, let them know that if you are going to work on the new task, something else will have to slide... give them the opportunity to decide what task WON'T get done in order for you to complete this new one.

  • New Home Improvement Show!

After selling the North Texas Home Improvement Show 11 years ago (the show ran from 1990 through 1998), Naomi has had a desire to get back into that industry. "The bridal shows and the home improvement shows were my main projects. They are my passion," she says.

The company that bought the North Texas Home Improvement Show dropped the show two years after they bought it.

Naomi is very excited to be back in the Home Improvement Show business coming up March 27-28, 2010 (Hall D), and August 28-29, 2010 (Hall A), at the Dallas Convention Center.

We are having a launch event December 1st from 3pm to 5pm for any company who is wanting to participate in the Home Improvement Show. If you target homeowners and are thinking about participating and would like to receive the E-Vite to attend this event, please email back the following information to info@bridalshowsinc.com: your company name, contact name, email address, and what products/services you would like to promote at the Home Improvement Show.

Check out our website (a work in progress) at www.homeimprovementshowsinc.com.

Some of the current testimonials from companies who exhibited in the North Texas Home Improvement Show previously co-produced by Naomi that we have received are:

"Our company has done a lot of home shows with Naomi in the past. She is an outstanding professional and knows what it takes to build a successful show. Attendance was always great and there is no such thing as a bad booth location."
~ Joe Loveridge, Arthur Norman Co., Inc.

"We loved the show and loved working with Naomi and the staff. Our company did a lot of great business with the show. One of the main reasons I generated many quality leads is because Naomi limits the number of exhibitors of the same trade. We look forward to the next upcoming Home Improvement Show that Naomi is producing and will continue to be a part of it!"
~ Rob Summerlin, AC & Heat Solutions

"Hi Naomi, we are so excited to welcome you back to the home improvement/classic living show arena. We missed you. It has always been such a great experience working together, I can truly say, you helped me to get Classic Superoof off the ground. Thanks for always being so motivated to help us, we love you!!"

Naomi's Notes: Take the Hard Road
    by: Naomi Hulme, CEM

The road that seems to be the easiest is not always easy.

If you want things to be easy, do not go into business for yourself. If you work for someone else, you will not have everything on your shoulders.

If you do own your own business, plan on some tough decisions, difficult times financially, challenging people, and hiring and firing, just to name a few.

If you have passion for what you do, you will also have joy and confidence, and you will learn something new each day that will help you get through those difficult things mentioned above.

As it is mentioned in the book "Eat that Frog" by Brian Tracy, take care of the tough challenges first each day. It is very encouraging to be able to scratch off the list those major tasks first. That way the hard road is out of the way and you will feel better about tackling those less difficult things next.

Branding With the Bride in Mind

The following article was submitted by WedBranding, an exhibitor in our the 2009 Wedding Professionals Business Conference.

To be truly successful, your wedding business has to exude professionalism and style, while still communicating an understanding of a bride's individuality and personality. Your products and services must keep up with what is fashionable, trendy, and yet still be unique and one-of-a-kind. However, your product or service aside, like most consumers in this fast-paced world brides often make their purchasing decisions based on first impressions. The way your business appears at first glance can make or break that potential sale. A professional, across-the-board brand image can set your business on par with the major brands your client sees and uses every day. Most importantly, it can set you light-years ahead of your competition.

    Media Opportunities with KISS FM
    kissfm

As always, KISS FM has offered some promotional opportunities to our vendors.

Please review these two listed to see if you might have an interest:

    1. The Kiss FM Honeymoon Giveaway

One lucky bride will win The KISS FM Honeymoon Giveaway which will include two round-trip air fare tickets for a value up to $800 from D/FW to anywhere in Mexico or the Caribbean along with $900 to spend on hotel accommodations at the hotel of their choice for a minimum of two nights.

This gives our January Dallas Bridal Show exhibitors an added-value opportunity to be involved in this give-a-way by offering other products and services along with this fantastic prize from KISS FM. If you are serious about being involved in this opportunity, please call Ruthie at 972-713-9920, x. 111 to find out cost and details.

Some of the categories that we are looking for are: Limo to and from airport, perfume, makeup, lingerie, hair removal (salons), skincare, luggage, fitness, scuba driving lessons, jewelry, spa, massages, dental (teeth whitening), dance lessons, cameras, video camera, lodging, champagne, tanning, furniture, dresses, sundresses, clothes, and more, and then after the honeymoon: bedding, cooking lessons, etc.

    2. Leaderboard Ad Space on Kiss FM website

This second promotional opportunity for our vendors will include the top ad position on the Leaderboard of the KISS FM website. KISS FM drives listeners to their website daily-it's a source to find out anything that the listeners are hearing on the radio. This Leaderboard banner ad would also include 25 (15 second) streaming audio promos that will air per week per station on the following stations: 106.1 KISS FM ($1,000), Mix 102.9 ($850), 102.1 The Edge ($750). Naomi's Notes: "Half Full or Half Empty"
    by: Naomi Hulme, CEM

According to Walter M. Germain in The Magic Power of Your Mind, "You produce your own results in life according to the quality of your thoughts. You possess a "magic" in your mind."

Have you noticed most people find it easier to listen to the negative and follow negative people, thoughts, and actions? When you see or hear this take place, Be Bold and Be a Leader instead of a follower. Encourage and motivate the other person to follow a positive path instead of a negative thought or action.

You have to make a real effort to be positive and follow or lead positive. Even if you do not view yourself as a leader, only follow positive thoughts and actions. Do not let anything negative influence you. It takes constant work to be aware of your thoughts and to pay attention when someone else is being negative. When you tactfully mention another way of looking at the "negative," you just might help someone else see and notice something they have not ever known they were doing before.

As stated by Spencer Johnson, M.D., in "YES" or "NO" The Guide to Better Decisions, "We are each our own guide to better decisions. And we can help others discover this as well."

When you decide to be positive, you will be happier, healthier, and eventually wealthier over time.

In Wisdom, Inc. by Seth Godin, he wrote "Thousands of years ago, Plato wrote-The man who makes everything that leads to happiness depends upon himself, and not other men, adopted the very best plan for living happily."

Mr. Godin also stated "Sometimes looking at a situation from a different perspective leads to visions beyond your wildest dreams. It's like an editor we know who used to proofread an entire magazine upside-down. He claimed that way he caught errors he would surely otherwise miss. Apply the upside-down technique to larger issues, and you might come up with a truly visionary approach."

    Dream and Live Positive!
